| ART IN EDUCATION
A few years ago I was asked by some local primary schools if I could do a few workshops with the children.
This proved to be a great success and I enjoy it immensely. The children love to paint and experiment with new mediums, such as pastels as well as acrylic. It is fantastic to see some of the wonderful work they can do! We have displayed some of their work at my annual exhibition at the Ashton Memorial in Lancaster, and they are justifiably proud to show this off to their parents and friends alike.
I feel it is very important to get children involved in art projects. Not everyone is academic and it is wonderful for the more creative children to see that it is possible to make a living through art.
Last year I was commissioned by Lancaster City Council and Poulton Management Committee (Morecambe) to work in 3 local primary schools and get ideas from the children about what Morecambe meant to them. They painted their designs and together we planned a montage.
I then painted the picture at home and had the image enlarged to 8 ft x 4ft and put onto aluminium. This was put onto the toilet block on the promenade in Morecambe along with the designs of the children, which had also been enlarged and put onto aluminium panels alongside the main image!
If any schools are interested in working on a project with me, please don't hesitate to call me on 01524 770761.
